Queluz National Palace

Public space, Queluz

2nd Prize, International Competition

The intervention focuses on the renovation of the area surrounding the Palácio Nacional de Queluz, the reorganisation of its main entrance and the restructuring of the circulation system, establishing new relationships with its surroundings. The project seeks to reinforce the historical character of the site by recovering its original landscape.

The intervention addresses an exceptional example of historical and artistic heritage. The proposal therefore aims to restore the principles of centrality, representation, and hierarchy that define the Baroque composition of the Palace and its gardens, recovering the symmetrical and monumental grammar that structures the ensemble and bringing it closer to the intentions of the original, unfinished project.

The existing aqueduct system is restored, new green areas are introduced, and vehicular access and circulation are reorganised, strengthening the relationship between the Palace, its gardens, and the surrounding landscape.
