Setúbal Housing

Setúbal, Portugal

The housing building revisits Aldo Rossi’s 1976 project for Rua do Monte in Setúbal, developed in relation to the Bela Vista neighbourhood plan prepared by Charters de Almeida between the 1970s and 1980s.

An arcade connects Rua do Monte to the new public garden, reinforcing the existing pedestrian routes. The commercial gallery, open to both the street and the garden, creates a place of passage and encounter for the neighbourhood.

The proposal adopts an architectural language based on repeated elements, whose perception changes according to viewpoint and light. The horizontality of the volumes and the ochre brick cladding reinforce this variation through shadow, sheen and reflection.

The new building completes the southern frontage of Rua do Monte, accommodating around 100 apartments, commercial spaces and parking.
