Lima Art Museum

Lima, Peru

International Competition

The new contemporary art wing of the Lima Museum is located to the south of the Palacio de la Exposición. The building contains an exhibition gallery, a library and a series of classrooms and workshops, establishing a new relationship with the museum square and the city’s central gardens.

The visible part of the building articulates the relationship between the city and the museum, creating a new entrance to the gardens and assuming a scale that responds to the surrounding avenues and buildings.

A tower — conceived as a kind of totem — accommodates the workshops. At its base, the museum’s new entrance hall, library and café open onto the gardens, while the exhibition gallery and technical spaces are located below the new museum square.
