Herdade das Servas Wine Hotel

Herdade das Servas Wine Hotel emerges from the transformation of an old agricultural complex, deeply rooted in the landscape of southern Alentejo. Its horizontal volumes, thick walls, arches, vaults, buttresses, terraces and threshing floors provide the starting point for an intervention that preserves the identity and character of the site.

The project transforms the complex into a low-density tourist resort through a restrained intervention, integrating contemporary architecture with the materials and scale of the existing structures. Traditional materials and construction techniques are reinterpreted in response to new requirements for comfort, performance and sustainability.

Environmental self-sufficiency is one of the project’s guiding principles. Passive strategies, on-site energy production and autonomous water management reduce dependence on conventional infrastructure while allowing the architecture to maintain a deliberately discreet presence in the landscape.

Beyond the restoration of the existing buildings, the project proposes the regeneration of the surrounding landscape. The reintroduction of native species and ecosystems seeks to restore its natural character and reinforce the relationship between architecture, heritage and place.
