Loures Cultural Centre
Loures, Portugal
The Loures Cultural Centre establishes a new urban continuity extending the city towards the landscape.
A sequence of public spaces — street, square and garden — structures the building and connects it to the city. These spaces establish a direct relationship between the cultural programme and the life of the city.
The auditorium forms the centre of the project. Inspired by Walter Gropius’s Total Theatre, it is conceived as a transformable space capable of hosting theatre, music, opera, dance, cinema and conferences, exploring different configurations and relationships between audience and performance.
