Two Residential Buildings
Praça D.João I, Porto, Portugal
The project converts two former office buildings into collective housing.
Located on Praça D. João I, the buildings retain their individual identities while sharing communal areas and incorporating commercial spaces at ground-floor level.
The smaller building accommodates seven apartments with flexible layouts that can be adapted to the needs of their future residents. The second contains 38 compact residential units, arranged as duplexes and accessed through internal galleries on alternating floors. This solution reduces circulation areas while allowing every apartment to have a dual aspect.
The conversion requires a substantial transformation of the existing structures, introducing new structural and construction solutions capable of accommodating the residential programme and contributing to the regeneration of the ensemble.
