Faculdade de Letras – Lisbon University

Lisboa University, Lisbon

2nd Prize, International Competition

The building occupies a strategic position within the northern expansion of the university grounds, completing a void between the historic core and its new access. Rather than simply consolidating the existing fabric, the project redefines the threshold of the campus, establishing a network that reconnects the university with the surrounding city and gives new continuity to the existing structure.

Conceived as an extension of the existing Faculty of Humanities, the building integrates seamlessly into the daily life of the university while maintaining its own identity. It complements the institution’s academic programme through a clear and flexible spatial organization that fosters interaction, learning, and exchange.

The project is structured around a central courtyard, the heart of the building, which organizes circulation, brings natural light into the interior, and creates a shared space for gathering and informal encounters. Acting as both a spatial and social core, the courtyard reinforces the building’s role as a place of connection.
