Fábrica da Pólvora – Student Residence

The project combines three complementary interventions — rehabilitation, new construction and landscape design — into an integrated strategy for the transformation of the complex.

The former workers’ quarters of Fábrica da Pólvora is restored and adapted for residential use, preserving the history and identity of the site. The existing structures are complemented by new buildings containing 30 single rooms and the residence’s main communal spaces for socialising, dining and studying.

The landscape intervention completes the project by restoring the outdoor spaces and creating a garden for residents. Existing and new buildings are brought together through the landscape, establishing a renewed sense of unity across the complex.
