Fábrica da Pólvora – Student Residences

Barcarena , Oeiras

The project combines three complementary interventions—rehabilitation, new construction, and landscaping—into an integrated strategy for transforming the complex.

The former workers’ quarters of the Gunpowder Factory are being restored and adapted for new residential uses, preserving the site’s history and identity. This intervention is complemented by new buildings, which include 30 single rooms and the residence’s main communal spaces—areas for socializing, dining, and studying.

The landscape redevelopment completes the project by restoring the outdoor spaces and creating a garden reserved for residents. New architecture and existing structures are linked through the landscape, creating a new sense of unity for the complex.
