CACE Art Gallery
Former Ellipse Foundation, Cascais
The Ellipse Foundation was conceived in 2004 to house a collection of approximately 900 works of contemporary art, including pieces by artists such as Dan Graham, Olafur Eliasson, Cindy Sherman, and Steve McQueen.
The project transforms the interiors of three existing warehouses into a contemporary art centre, comprising exhibition rooms and galleries, conference and projection spaces, offices, archives, and storage areas for the collection.
The exhibition spaces are conceived as flexible environments capable of accommodating interventions that alter their initial configuration. The exhibition routes can likewise be adapted and reconfigured in response to the different installations and interventions developed by the exhibiting artists.
The gallery currently houses the Portuguese State Contemporary Art Collection (CACE).
